Review Rokkk Hindi Movie : Entertaining
Rokkk is a tale about Anushka (Tanushree Dutta) who marries a widower Ravi (Sachin Khedekar) and moves to a new house in Goa. From the moment of her arrival she senses the presence of a supernatural entity. Freaked everyday by it, she leaves the house. But in spite of that the ghost, in this case a little girl, does not leave her. Harrowed, she visits a spiritual guide (Arif Zakaria) who gives her a medallion read ‘yantra’ to protect her. And tells her the house is a cursed one which is known to kill anyone and everyone who step on its shadow. All hell breaks loose when Ravi and his sister are killed. Anushka accused for the murder, is arrested and put in an asylum as she loses her mental stability.
Ahana (Udita Goswami) who is Anushka’s sister comes to look for her. In Goa she hears that her sister has run away from the mental asylum and the police are in search of her. CBI inspector Ranvir (Shaad Randhawa) who is in charge of the case along with Ahana tries to solve the mystery. They visit the haunted house and Ahana soon learns about the spirit in the house. Together they then go to the spiritual guide who tells them his story. Ahana and Ranvir dig out the mystery of the house and swear to finish the matter or die trying.
The film has its spooky moments; sure half of them were over done with the unnecessary sound effects, which has now become a trait of every horror flick. Secondly, ever since Samaira Morgan from the film Ring had the look with her hair falling before her eyes every director incorporates that to make the girl ghost look scary. Whatever happened to innovative looks and makeup for female ghosts, I wonder. The story leaves behind a lot of unanswered questions. Does the director plan on answering them in a probable sequel?
The film ends in a classic Hollywood style giving scope to another sequel, well that would be possible if this film ever works.
Tanushree Dutta does a good job in the film; her expressive eyes do most of the talking. Udita falls flat and doesn’t seem very convincing most of the time. Her dressing in the second last and last sequences make you ponder. Shaad Randhawa seemed like his was in a rom-com more than a horror flick. Sachin Khedekkar does not have much scope but is fine. Arif Zakaria is superb and does a great job. Ashwini Khalsekar of Phoonk and now of Rokkk has almost become a permanent feature in horror flicks but does a decent job. Surely the characters need to be given more practice in the English pronunciations.
Verdict : The film makes for an okay watch and would scare you in parts but buy loads of popcorn in case you are not made for ‘not so scary’ movies.
