Ajith’s Asal is progressing at a fast pace and December 18 has been announced as the final shoot date.

Asal is produced by Sivaji Productions and rumors are on that the film will be released for Pongal. But the Sivaji camp has other ideas, it is believed. As almost a practice most of the late actor Sivaji’s films were released on Republic Day and there are speculations that Asal also may be released on January 26th 2010.

But Sivaji’s son Ram Kumar is keen on a Pongal release. One has to wait for further news from the Sivaji tent about the release date.

Titles and prefixes have always been a symbol of status, popularity, and success in the film industry. Right from the days of MGR and Sivaji Ganesan it has been a trend.

Asal is on cruise mode, aiming for a Pongal 2010 release. Latest news from the camp is that the central villain has just been cast and will be flying out to France in a few days to join the schedule. The chosen one is none other than Chennai 28 and Saroja fame Sampath. After impressive performances over the past couple of years, a big one was surely round the corner for this actor who also made his Malayalam debut this year. Being pitted against a charismatic star like Ajith is not an easy job, but Sampath has shown that he has the stuff to pull it off. As reported earlier, yesteryear actor Suresh too will be seen in a role with shades of grey in Asal.

After recent Diwali development, it has become almost sure that Asal is on course for a head on with Vijay’s Vettaikaran for Pongal. And, latest news is that the Telugu mega hit Magadheera will be dubbed and released for the festival season. With the competition heating up, the Asal camp too is sure to turn the heat on and leave no stone unturned to make it a cracking film.

However, the new breed of actors seems to think otherwise. Yes, Ajith has decided to denounce his Ultimate Star title. The actor, who is affectionately called as the Ultimate Star, said that the film industry is undergoing a sea change and in such circumstances there is no need for titles.

The actor also reportedly wrote a letter to Sivaji Productions, the production house that has produced his yet-to-be released Asal, not to use the title.

Asal’s audio was launched in a very simple function at Sivaji Ganesan’s house in T Nagar, Chennai. Those present at the launch were the film’s lead star Ajith, his wife Shalini, director Saran and music director Bharadwaj. Also present were Sivaji’s sons Ram Kumar and Prabhu along with their family. The press was also invited to this event. The audio was released by Prabu and received by Ajith.

Speaking at the function, Ajith said that for Asal everything, right from the title, has turned out to be good. He also revealed that this film will be the closest to his heart in all the four films that he was associated with Saran and Bharadwaj. Ajith made it clear that his co-stars Sameera Reddy and Bhavana will have roles that would have equal footage with him.

Saran, during his speech let the cat out of the bag! Yes, what was a closely guarded secret and is being speculated by the movie buffs is now open for all. Ajith indeed is playing a dual role in Asal, revealed Saran.
